“I am the first to admit it is not always easy to be positive. I don’t think it needs to be EASY, I just think it needs to be WORTH it.” – Paul Wesselmann
Welcome to the third Change Makers of NIRSA vlog series. For this hope-filled session, I invited a special guest for a one-on-one conversation: Paul Wesselmann, the Ripples Guy.
I wanted to share a Hope Half Time Show, via vlog. Before we wrap up our remaining vlog sessions, I’d like to encourage us to share ripples of hope. I kept thinking who would be great at helping me with the task? Well, the Ripples Guy, Paul Wesselmann, of course. The resulting vlog finds us talking about how to sustain hope and the significance of empowering others.
Change Makers
The goal of the Change Makers of NIRSA series is to create synergy around the concept of critical hope (hope with action) during times of change. Critical hope “demands that leaders take up the most difficult challenges, explore the most sensitive subjects, and raise the most daring questions.” (Preskill & Brookfield, 2009, p. 173)
I must acknowledge that so many of our members are engaging in change on the ground at their respective campuses and for the Association. This year is dedicated to sharing stories about how colleagues are acting and contributing to change on the ground at their respective campuses.
Spending time with Paul brought me inspiration and hope. Check out Ripples of Hope and the special unleashing of hope Paul shares with NIRSA friends and colleagues.
Paul assembled a collection of digital treats just for us; you can access them by sending a blank email to NIRSALove@TheRipplesGuy.com (put RIPPLES in the subject line to get added to Paul’s weekly Ripples email list). You can also find @RipplesGuy on social media, or visit Paul’s website.
My hope is we continue to listen, learn, do better and inspire each other to be change makers exhibiting critical hope. Let’s share ripples of hope and remember to be the change the world needs to create and sustain healthy communities.
Be well NIRSA friends,
Cara
