The Fitness Forum in the NIRSA Campus Rec & Wellness Expo provides Annual Conference attendees an opportunity to discover trending workouts, learn new techniques, and embrace the glory of sweat between education sessions. And for Fitness Forum presenters like Christina Ustiak, Community Events Coordinator at City of West Palm Beach, the love of fitness and “ability to share new fitness formats with others” fuels her motivation to present.
Christina, formerly Coordinator of Fitness and Recreation – Broward Campuses at Florida Atlantic University, presented at the NIRSA 2019 Fitness Forum in Boston and NIRSA 2017 in Tampa. From her experience attending Fitness Forum classes, she knows the format is valuable for attendees to “try something new and think about it for their campuses in the future.”
“In 2016, I got to take a class I never heard of and loved it enough, we got one of our instructors certified in it later that year,” she adds.
Each year, the Fitness Forum affords NIRSA members the ability to present unique fitness experiences to their peers from across the country. It’s also an opportunity to help attendees take a break from other Annual Conference activities, highlights Will Craig, formerly Assistant Director of Fitness at North Carolina State University at Raleigh and now Vice President of College Sales at F45 Training. F45 has presented multiple fitness classes during the expo’s Early Morning Workout.
“The Fitness Forum is a great way to network with colleagues and also provides a way to help others decompress and take a mental break from traditional conference activities,” Will says.
Fitness Forum proposals are due January 10
NIRSA’s looking for passionate instructors who love leading, learning, and demonstrating the innovative trends in fitness and wellbeing to submit proposals for the NIRSA 2022 Fitness Forum. Whether you’re a student, professional, or associate member, this incredible career development opportunity allows you to showcase the popular classes you’re seeing on campus and introduce your peers to the latest and greatest in health and wellbeing.
Take the word of NIRSA 2019 Fitness Forum presenter Shelly Mamo, MPH, Fitness & Wellness Coordinator/Wellness & Recreation Services at University of Colorado Denver: “Go for it!”
“It’s so much fun to be able to present to people from across the nation and share ideas,” Shelly says. “I got a lot of good feedback from participants and made connections from other schools that I wouldn’t have otherwise.”
The proposal form is available now and proposals are due Monday, January 10.
Kelley Hungerford is currently the Assistant Director of Expo & Corporate Relations at NIRSA.
