Talks with Tiffany: Maintaining Professionalism in the Midst of Black Mourning is an ongoing three-part series with Black female recreation directors who discuss aspects of being a Black woman in campus recreation. The series covers how these women work with their staff, work through micro/macroaggressions, maintain their mental and physical health, and face other challenges.
The first webinar in the series, “Balancing Professionalism in a Time of Unrest,” took place October 7 and is available for registrants to view on-demand until Friday, April 2, 2021. Candice Douglas, Assistant Director – Facilities at Western Kentucky University, calls the webinar “wonderful.” She says, “It was a perfect lesson in representation matters. Seeing black women in director’s roles was an inspiration. Hearing their coping methods during this time of unrest provided an excellent guide to navigating this time myself.”
The second webinar, “Pushing the Agenda Forward,” will take place Wednesday, December 2. This series is being facilitated by Director of Recreation Services at Colby College Tiffany Lomax who is presenting webinars featuring some of NIRSA’s leading Black women voices. These include Jocelyn Hill, Director of Recreational Sports & Fitness at American University, Felicia Tittle, Executive Director of Recreation & Physical Education at Duke University, Tara Parker, Executive Director of the Department of Sports and Recreation at Kennesaw State University, and Wendy Windsor, Director of Recreation at Tulane University.
