As a leading employer on college campuses, recreation departments shoulder the responsibility of training and developing student staff—and they do this largely on their own and without shared resources. Chrissy Galli, Staff Development & Student Experience Specialist at the University of California, Berkeley, and Matthew Altendorf, Coordinator for Student Staff Training & Development at The Ohio State University, have set out to change that.
In July, the NIRSA Board of Directors formalized the new Student Staff Development Task Force, co-chaired by Chrissy and Matthew. This task force was created to develop a thriving community where members can have ongoing conversations regarding best practices, as well as share resources. The task force has started dropping resources in the library of the new Student Staff Development Community on Connect. It encourages those who train and develop student staff on their campuses to join the community and share ideas.
Are you interested in sharing your student staff training expertise to create resources for fellow NIRSA members? Please consider applying for a position on the Student Staff Development Task Force! The deadline to apply is Friday, July 31.
