NIRSA is excited to announce that the 2020 NIRSA Intramural & Sport Club Institute will be held on the campus of the University of Vermont! Taking place July 7–9, this inaugural institute is a combination of the previously-held NIRSA Intramural Sports Institute and NIRSA Collegiate Sport Club Institute. Combining these events allows attendees to pick either a sport club or intramural track, gives them the possibility of attending sessions from either track, and adds more sessions that address middle management positions that oversee both sport club and intramural programs.

Jonathan Johnston, co-Chair of the 2020 NIRSA Intramural & Sport Club Institute Committee and Associate Director of Campus Recreation at Texas A&M University-Commerce, expresses excitement for the upcoming event. “Unifying the Intramural and Club Sport Institutes is a vision turned into reality,” he says. “Many of us have been tasked with overseeing both program areas so it only made sense that these two were combined to help campus recreation professionals get more development bang for their buck. There are two educational tracks—one intramural sports and one club sports. This will provide attendees the opportunity to grow more in the programs they oversee directly, but also grow in another they may not or hope to one day.”

Since the event is being hosted on a college campus, NIRSA is able to provide not only a hotel room block but also a room block at the residence halls on Vermont’s campus! Offering residence hall rooms provides attendees with the option to save even more on their travel costs.

Jonathan adds, “Burlington, Vermont is a beautiful part of the country with amazing summer weather and abundant site seeing opportunities before, during, and after the institute. We’re excited to be on a university campus again and thankful for the University of Vermont (one of only two universities with a catamount as their mascot) for hosting us.”

Stay tuned for registration and proposal information—it’s coming soon!
