Managing paperwork in a wet environment with multiple employee shifts can feel counter-productive. With years of experience in aquatic innovation, Counsilman-Hunsaker knows exactly what it takes to build a successful aquatic center from design to daily operations. And as an associate member of NIRSA for almost twenty years, Counsilman-Hunsaker understands the value that the Association and its members place on health and wellbeing and on sustainable communities. Which is why I’m proud to share with the NIRSA family that the Council for the Model Aquatic Health Code (CMAHC)—a non-profit organization founded that promotes the health and safety of people, families, and workers at public swimming facilities—recently named our firm’s joint web-application with the National Swimming Pool Foundation, Facility Manager™, as recipient of the first-of-its-kind certification.
The CMAHC—in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)—was created to promote adoption of and to manage updates related to the CDC’s Model Aquatic Health Code (MAHC), the only all-inclusive national model pool code that, when followed, can help reduce the risk for disease outbreaks, drownings, and chemical injuries at public aquatic venues.
“This achievement promotes the health, safety, and wellness of aquatic centers utilizing Facility Manager™ and provides aquatic facilities an important incentive to ensure they are complying with the Model Aquatic Health Code,” says Kevin Post, Principal at Counsilman-Hunsaker.
The CMAHC developed its certification program as part of its efforts to educate the public about products and services that meet strict standards to help protect peoples’ health and safety at public aquatic venues.
Impact on aquatics staff
Aquatic facilities that have deployed Facility Manager are already benefitting. Pirates Cove in Englewood, CO, was among the first facilities to begin utilizing Facility Manager™ for its aquatic operations. “The web-based app can be accessed anywhere and is easy to navigate in creating inspection checklists and tracking in-services and incidents,” says Brad Anderson, Pirates Cove Aquatic Supervisor. “Since using Facility Manager,” he adds “I have been able to eliminate paper reporting and help achieve our department’s goal of reducing paper consumption by 20%, all while gaining easy access to reports right from my computer.”
With this new app, aquatic facility managers can access their data from anywhere, whether you’re on-site or out and about. This app—which is licensed per facility on an annual basis—can help you maximize your time by giving you access to real-time data right in your pocket. Additionally, it can help you ensure proper reporting and record keeping while eliminating the paper hassle for your staff.
Standardized options, auto-fill for key fields, and automated prompts help keep you from overlooking required items. Customizable email templates and alerts save administrative time and keep the right people informed. This means your facility records can contain more facts and details which will help your team identify trends specific to your facility.

The CMAHC awards certification to services or products that comply with the relevant or applicable standards in the latest MAHC edition. The certification is not a single occurrence. Rather, the intent is to build a long-term quality control partnership. After initial certification, the CMAHC re-evaluates each certified service or product annually to ensure it continues to meet the same high standards required in the MAHC for it to maintain certification status.
