The unwavering support of the NIRSA Foundation’s corporate partners is essential to the work of the NIRSA Foundation. Every year of partnership, these companies help NIRSA student members attend the NIRSA Annual Conference & Campus Rec and Wellness Expo by providing scholarships.

For NIRSA 2019, our corporate partners Matrix Fitness, Sports Imports, and WOODWAY will provide three student scholarships, demonstrating extraordinary support for our NIRSA family and aspiring campus rec leaders.

Matrix Fitness grows future campus rec leaders

Meeting the Matrix Fitness Scholarship recipient is an Annual Conference highlight for Marc Loomer, National Sales Manager – Campus Recreation at Matrix Fitness, which is among the world’s premier and fastest growing commercial fitness brands.

“Matrix Fitness is always pleased to support the professional development of NIRSA students,” he says. “We realize the need for a strong pipeline of talented young professionals in college recreation. With a growing number of directors approaching retirement, this is more significant than ever.”

Beyond seeking professional development opportunities and taking advantage of the NIRSA Foundation scholarship program, Marc encourages “aspiring campus recreation professionals to seek a strong mentor,” whether that mentor is currently in the field or retired but still connected to the industry. “There are many prominent directors that are happy to impart their vast experience and knowledge to ambitious young professionals,” he continues.

Sports Imports is passionate about student development

For Sports Imports, a leading and innovating manufacturer of volleyball equipment that has been setting net system standards since 1976, participation in the scholarship program means cultivating student growth beyond the volleyball court and ensuring student success in the greater campus rec world.

“The Sports Imports Team is passionate about the game of volleyball,” says Sports Imports President and CEO Cyndie Dunlap-Cullinan. “We love our sport and want to see it grow and develop at every level. We support the NIRSA Foundation because we believe in their mission and the positive impact they are having in the collegiate recreational communities.”

WOODWAY develops outstanding students ‘for the long run’

Eric Weber, Director of Sales & Marketing at WOODWAY, the world’s largest specialized treadmill manufacturer, has connected with many students over the years through participation in the NIRSA Foundation scholarship program at the Annual Conference.

“‘For the Long Run’ describes WOODWAY’s belief in building quality equipment but more importantly quality relationships,” he explains, playing off the company’s tagline. “It is our privilege to work daily with the bright and innovative people who benefitted from the NIRSA Foundation as students and are now part of the WOODWAY family in their professional careers.”

To Eric, outstanding professionals are an “invaluable asset” to the campus recreation industry and supporting scholarships for today’s students significantly benefits the future of the profession. “WOODWAY would not be able to fulfill its mission statement if we did not give back and participate in opportunities to help develop talented individuals—to help this great organization develop great people,” Eric says.
