On Monday, November 13, NIRSA will be joining the American College Health Association (ACHA) and other leaders in the field of student health and wellbeing for the inaugural ACHA Mental Health Symposium. The symposium will take place from 9:30am to 3:30pm EST on the campus of George Washington University in Washington, DC, and will be streamed live on ACHA’s website.
The goal of the symposium is to kick start a national dialogue focused on developing an actionable blueprint for addressing the growing mental health and wellness challenges facing our nation’s 19 million college students. The symposium, titled “Crisis on Campus: Addressing the Rising Mental Health Demands of our Nation’s Students,” will feature a panel of leading voices in higher education; campus mental health and wellness; public health; and public policy; and will evaluate trends, research, and innovations in mental health and wellness.
“NIRSA is proud to serve as co-sponsor for ACHA’s Mental Health Symposium, Crisis on Campus: Addressing the Rising Mental Health Demands of our Nation’s Students,” says NIRSA Executive Director Pam Watts. “Mental health is an increasingly critical issue for colleges and universities, and it remains a significant driving factor in NIRSA’s work towards building a culture of integrated wellbeing on campuses across North America. We applaud ACHA’s recognition that physical activity and other programs offered in campus recreation centers are part of the solution to the growing mental health crises.”
