The 2018 Emerging Recreational Sports Leaders Conference Program Committee is now accepting presentation proposals! The Program Committee—composed of me, Charles Judkins, Director, Wellness and Recreation Florida International University; Anja Shelton, Coordinator of Recreation Operations at Austin Peay University; and Brittany Rejda, NIRSA Assistant Director for Professional Development—has set the submission deadline for Friday, December 1.
Please consider this opportunity to present at the 26th ERSL Conference themed “Making Every Connection Matter.” The conference is taking place from January 18–20 at beautiful Florida International University, Biscayne Bay Campus in North Miami, FL.
Who can present?
We are calling on everyone who has ever participated in or attended an ERSL Conference in the last 26 years. The success of this event depends on you. It depends on members choosing to contribute by registering for the event and submitting presentation proposals. We hope you will consider joining us!
NIRSA professional and student members who submit proposals and are among the first 10 to have their proposal selected will serve as lead presenters and will receive a courtesy time preference. This means they’ll have the option to select the day and time they would like to present, which is definitely a good reason to get excited and get your proposal submitted soon!
Presentation guidelines
Presentation proposals should align with NIRSA’s eight core competencies as well as the following three focus areas selected by the Program Committee: programming, philosophy and theory, and personal and professional qualities.
Programming
- Specialized programming—intramural, sport clubs, fitness, etc.—or programming for special populations
- Effective program development, scheduling, and delivery
Philosophy and theory
- Trends in recreational sports as well as health and wellness theories and models
- Professionalism and ethics
- Student development theories
- Participation-based philosophical perspectives
- Standards of practice, issues of equity and diversity, and student affairs issues and theories
Personal and professional qualities
- Problem solving
- Prioritization
- Adaptability
- Networking
- Analytical skills
