The NIRSA School has been providing recreation professionals with a learning experience that helps them build skills to become leaders in their departments, on their campus, and in the profession. Experienced recreational sports faculty members develop the course curriculum, design the program schedule, and lead sessions that provide participants with opportunities to practice, discuss, and refine the professional skills necessary for success. Level I curriculum is designed for professionals in recreational sports with less than five years of full-time experience. The 2018 NIRSA School of Collegiate Recreation Level I, presented by Life Fitness, will be held in Virginia Beach, Virginia from June 3–7.
This event consistently sells out very quickly. To improve the registration experience for members, NIRSA will be using a lottery process for the 2018 event. More information about the lottery process and 2018 content information will be posted on the NIRSA School website in October.
Curricular offerings and the schedule for the NIRSA School are designed to offer an intensive program structured to provide participants with professionally challenging sessions to further develop their competencies. The interrelationship between course offerings is designed to provide a well-rounded approach to handling challenges in today’s collegiate recreation environment. Participants must attend the entire event to receive a certificate of completion.
The 2016 NIRSA School may very well have been one of the best experiences I have had with NIRSA in my eight years as a member,” says Clint Jones, Assistant Director of Campus Recreation at St. Edward’s University. “I would highly recommend the NIRSA School Level I to any new professional and hope they get the opportunity to go learn from some of the best in the business! Great job NIRSA!”
Stesha Heselius-Mashinchi, Club Sports and Camps Coordinator at Louisiana State University, adds, “The NIRSA School challenged me and pushed me outside of my comfort zone. That said, the faculty was so supportive and the cohorts were clearly intentionally designed that even with the intensive environment it always felt supportive and safe. Of all the NIRSA conferences I have been to, the NIRSA School Level I is the one I will never forget and definitely the conference where I made the closest connections to my peers. I highly recommend it!
