Virginia Beach was the place to be for collegiate sport club professionals this past June! The 2017 NIRSA Collegiate Sport Club Institute was record breaking. The institute not only had the most attendees in the event’s history but also had more sport governing bodies than ever before.
The 2017 institute had something for everyone. Both new and seasoned professionals learned about current trends in the field and benefitted from attending. “As a young professional in the program, I truly enjoyed not only the information I was able to take away, but also the camaraderie with everyone that attended,” explains Amanda Bray, Sport Club Coordinator at Temple University and a first-time attendee. “Attending functions like this where everyone is so passionate about what they do makes one truly proud of one’s chosen line of work. The conference itself was run very well and the sessions were very informative. It was a great first experience, and I look forward to attending again!”
Sport club veteran Angie Nagle, Assistant Director of Recreation at Saint Joseph’s University, says, “Having directed a sport club program for the past nine years, I attended with the hopes of gathering new ideas and refreshing the processes I have in place. I was extremely pleased with the educational offerings and left feeling energized for the upcoming year.”
Attendees had the fantastic opportunity to network with eleven different sport governing bodies this year. They were able to ask sport governing body representatives questions during both a panel discussion and a roundtable session. The Institute also included a dinner and expo, both of which allowed for additional networking opportunities. The access to sport governing bodies allowed attendees to better understand the resources that are available to their clubs from their respective sport governing bodies.
NIRSA would like to thank the 2017 NIRSA Collegiate Sport Club Institute Committee, led by Chair Mandy Madden, Assistant Director of Sport Clubs at the University of Notre Dame, for a successful and record-breaking institute. The next NIRSA Collegiate Sport Club Institute will take place in 2019 so stay tuned for more details and start planning to attend!
