NIRSA congratulates Andy Milton, RCRSP and Director of Campus Recreation at St. Ambrose University for being selected as NIRSA’s Alternate Director to the Board of Directors of the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS). NIRSA Council representatives speak for the interests of the collegiate recreation profession and the Association in the revision and establishment of collegiate recreation standards. Andy was selected for his experience as a leader in the recreation field, for his experience in utilizing the CAS Standards to lead division-wide assessments, and for his overall service to the profession. Andy’s service on the recent CAS Standards Review Task Force means he is familiar with the current standards and emerging trends. His experience as a professional member from a small program will also serve him well as a representative of NIRSA given the large proportion of NIRSA members who are from small programs.

Current CAS Director Dr. Douglas Franklin, who has served in this position since 2007 and has lead the Association through two revisions of the collegiate recreation standards, is retiring next year. Andy will transition into the Director position upon Dr. Franklin’s retirement. Please take a moment to congratulate Andy on his appointment and to thank Doug for his outstanding service!

Online access to the CAS Standards is a benefit of NIRSA membership

As a benefit of membership, all NIRSA members may access the CAS Standards for the field at any time on the NIRSA website. These standards may be used to provide guidance in planning new programs, in assessing the quality of existing programs, and to provide training for recreation staff.
