The Association was founded by Dr. William Wasson on February 22, 1950 when he brought 20 intramural directors from 11 Historically Black Colleges and Universities together to share his research regarding collegiate recreation. NIRSA members from around the world now celebrate this founding date as National Recreational Sports & Fitness Day, or Rec Day.
Rec Day 2017 is fast approaching and, this year, NIRSA members are fortunate enough to be able to celebrate NIRSA’s birthday with a couple thousand family members at the 2017 NIRSA Annual Conference & Campus Rec and Wellness Expo in National Harbor!
On February 22, NIRSA 2017 attendees will enjoy appetizers, cake, and a cash bar in the Campus Rec and Wellness Expo. They’ll also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of exciting activities throughout the days of the Expo. So get ready to work out at the Fitness Forum, test your free throw savvy at the Hoop Shoot, enjoy tennis at the Unified Sports Experience, and visit several participating exhibitor’s booths to receive your “I Was There” Rec Day T-shirt!
Not going to the Annual Conference this year? You can also order custom Rec Day gear and celebrate on your campus during the week of February 20—consider planning some special Rec Day programming for your students! Share your Rec Day photos and stories with NIRSA on social media—Twitter, Instagram, Facebook—using the hashtag #RecDay or by emailing your photos to NIRSA Communications Coordinator Nazifa Islam.
