The NIRSA Championship Series is excited to announce that it’s moving to a twelve-tournament structure for basketball!

A growth in universities interested in hosting regional tournaments—and success with the twelve regional flag football tournaments—led the Basketball Work Team to propose this new structure, which was recently adopted by the NSC Board of Directors.

Two additional tournaments means additional opportunities for student and professional development.

Aaron Hobson, Basketball Work Team Chair, says that “the expansion of NIRSA Championship Series Basketball from ten regional tournaments in 2014 to twelve regional tournaments in 2015” will allow “new hosts sites to emerge around the country while maintaining support for legacy tournaments with long, rich histories. More importantly, this decision will provide increased opportunities for participants, officials, and professionals moving forward.” He adds that the decision will also help basketball “align with recent changes to the Flag Football Championship Series.”

The following regional sites were selected from across the country and will provide participation and development opportunities to an increasing number of players, officials, and staff:

Eastern Washington University*
Texas Christian University*
University of Arizona
University of Boston
University of Central Florida
University of Dayton
University of Florida
University of Georgia*
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
University of Maryland
University of Massachusetts Amherst
University of Nebraska—Lincoln

You can find more details on basketball regional tournaments and the national tournament on the NIRSA website. For individuals looking to be an active part of the basketball program’s development, staff applications will be available in the fall.
