As ambassadors for health and wellbeing on collegiate campuses throughout North America, NIRSA members’ responsibilities and concerns are dynamic and far-reaching.

We know there is always a lot to juggle and a lot to keep up with.

One particular issue that is raising questions on campuses across the country is the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). NIRSA’s Policy and Legislation Committee is actively monitoring both the policy and the actual implementation of the legislation.

Let us know what questions you have about ACA’s effect on your rec center’s student workers.

It’s our goal to help provide you, NIRSA’s awesome members, the tools you need to best serve your department and campus community—we know your institution and student populations are unique and there is no one-size-fits-all solution. So, at this time, there are two important items the Policy & Legislation Committee would like to share regarding ACA.

Survey to collect concerns

Because of the complexity surrounding ACA’s implementation, NIRSA is consolidating questions and issues now in order to help identify the range of concerns that relate to campus recreation graduate assistants. The information gathered will then be shared with the Consortium for Higher Education, who will gather additional clarification and continue a dialogue with the Department of Labor and the IRS.

As each campus recreation department has individuated needs and considerations, it is essential that you let us know what concerns you have so that we can best help support you and your campus community.

Please take a few minutes to share data on your program and highlight your concerns in this survey, which will inform future implementation guidelines associated with the Affordable Care Act.

Webinar

NIRSA is partnering with other student affairs associations to offer a webinar focused on the Affordable Care Act and Student Affairs Professionals.  Join Josh Ulman, chief government relations officer at College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) and Brandon Long, an attorney and shareholder with McAffee Taft in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on Thursday, July 17 at 1:00 pm EDT for this free opportunity.

Ullman and Long will discuss the legislation and the IRS guidance on the law, as well as how student affairs personnel who employ students can approach and manage student employee hours and duties. For more information about the webinar and to register, click here.
