By Stacey L. Hall, Ph.D., Director of Campus Recreation at the University of New Hampshire and NIRSA President Designee

At their February meeting, the NIRSA Board of Directors approved Janice DeMonsi, Director of Recreation at Santa Clara University, to serve as the Board’s Annual Director during the 2016–2017 year.

In selecting the Annual Director, careful consideration was given to the current work and focus of the Board. Continuing the advancement of the Association’s strategic plan, as well as keeping in mind improvements to it, is a high priority for next year’s Board. Janice’s background and talents are strong assets to this mission.

Janice has been an invested and contributing member in the NIRSA Commission for Sustainable Communities, where she is currently serving as co-chairperson. Previously, she was an active member of the Sustainability Community of Practice. In addition, she also serves as a member of the Strategic Values Steering Committee.

The Board will greatly benefit from Janice’s strategic thinking and tireless work ethic, which will be essential traits as it pursues its dynamic initiatives. Janice will also bring geographical diversity to the Board as well as a unique perspective from her past experiences in recreation operations, aquatics, and education.
