Status Update: NIRSA 2020 is cancelled

NIRSA 2020 in Phoenix is cancelled.
Due to the impacts of COVID-19 and recommendations from the World Health Organization and Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the place-based 2020 NIRSA Annual Conference and Campus Rec & Wellness Expo will not take place in Phoenix, Arizona this year as planned.
The decision to cancel the conference was made within a context of the impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak, feedback from campus recreation leadership groups, and the consideration for the safety of our attendees.
What happens now?
Registered NIRSA2020 attendees were emailed information and a link to a form on March 20, 2020. Attendees are encouraged to discuss the following options with their supervisor no later than April 10, 2020.
- Apply my 2020 conference registration fee to the 2021 NIRSA Annual Conference, to be held in Milwaukee, WI, March 17-20, 2021
- Convert your 2020 NIRSA Annual Conference registration fee as a credit on your account with NIRSA. Credits are available for use for up to one year and can be used for NIRSA professional development opportunities, dues, or other NIRSA resources.
- Request a full refund (no administrative fee)
Refunds apply to conference registrations, preconference trips, or preconference workshops.
Refunds will be processed within 30 days of form receipt.
If NIRSA does not receive a completed form request from registered 2020 attendees by April 10, 2020, the registration fee for those registrations will automatically be applied to a registration in the same name for the 2021 NIRSA Annual Conference.
If you registered for NIRSA 2020 and did not receive the email with the 2020 NIRSA Annual Conference registration refund request form, please contact billing@nirsa.org.
Reservations made in the official NIRSA Room Block through the link provided in your conference registration confirmation email have already automatically been cancelled. However, if you made reservations at another property outside the official NIRSA Room Block, you are responsible for cancelling your reservation with the property directly and may be subject to any cancellation fees and policies.
Please refer to the airline carrier and/or train ticket policies regarding any cancellation fees associated with your flight.
NIRSA appreciates the time, effort, and talents of our presenters who were preparing to deliver exceptional content at the 2020 conference. If you were accepted as a presenter and you are interested in presenting online, please let us know here and we’ll contact you with more information in the upcoming weeks. We also encourage you to consider joining us in Milwaukee next year. The call for NIRSA 2021 presentation proposals is anticipated to launch in late April or early May.
The Career Services Center Committee is putting together a virtual career development event. We’ll have more details soon, but mini-sessions, resume reviews, mock interviews, and even Talk to a Pro/GA online opportunities are all being explored!
Each year at the Annual Conference, NIRSA is proud to recognize and celebrate our extraordinary members with a variety of awards. NIRSA HQ is in the process of pioneering new modes for us to celebrate our Award Winners, including our 2020 Honor Award Recipient, Eric Nickel during these unprecedented times. As we make plans, we will communicate them with our members and honorees. We hope to find a forum to bring people together and honor those whom we were planning to distinguish at NIRSA 2020.
All NIRSA Foundation Golf Registrants have been emailed regarding their golf registration fee. If you registered for the golf tournament and did not receive that communication or if you still have questions, please contact Kim Holmes, NIRSA Director of Philanthropy.
NIRSA members have multiple ways to connect with the 2020 registered exhibitors. The 2020 floor plan allows you to hover over each vendor to see company descriptions, contact information and brochures from those who uploaded them. You can also skim the 2020 exhibitor list for a quick reference.
We also encourage NIRSA members to watch the NIRSA Connect Community under the associate member resource thread. Valuable resources as well as special offerings are added daily so check back often to see the latest.
How can registered attendees indicate their refund preferences for their 2020 NIRSA Annual Conference registration fee?

NIRSA appreciates the time, effort, and talents of our presenters who were preparing to deliver exceptional content at the 2020 conference. In the coming weeks, NIRSA will inquire with some presenters about their interest in presenting content online or through another avenue. We encourage you to look at next year’s submission process and revise your content to align with the new call for proposals. The call for NIRSA 2021 presentation proposals is anticipated to launch in late April or early May.
