This popular fundraiser is a highlight of the NIRSA Annual Conference & Campus Rec and Wellness Expo!

Join the fun and promote your institution’s recreation department and programs by entering items that showcase your graphic design and event promotion savvy. Entries will be judged on originality, content, graphic design, and overall visual appeal.

The design contest is a philanthropic endeavor that provides friendly competition between NIRSA institutions and serves as an exchange of creative promotion ideas. Ribbons are awarded for first, second, and third places in each category. All entries are displayed and sold at the Annual Conference.


Donations are greatly appreciated for other items such as jackets, sweatshirts, cups, hats, etc.  These items will be available for sale as soon as they are available, starting March 4.

Please submit your form by
Monday, March 5, 1:00pm

All proceeds will be used to further the mission of the NIRSA Foundation.

Contest Categories

T-shirts will be judged in each of the following categories:

  • Fitness & Wellbeing
  • Humorous
  • Intramurals
  • One-Color Screen (includes all categories)
  • Outdoor
  • Special Events
  • Sport Clubs
  • Staff (lifeguard, officials, etc.)

A Best of Show will be awarded among the first-place winners from each of the T-shirt categories.

Entry Process

Bring your completed entry forms (available online soon!) with you for a quick check-in. Entries will be accepted at the Foundation Table located in the conference center lobby near registration during these times:

Saturday, March 3: 5:00pm – 8:00pm
Sunday, March 4: 8:00am – 4:15pm
Monday, March 5: 8:00am – 1:00pm

Entries must be submitted by Monday, March 5 by 1:00 p.m.
Judging will take place from on Monday, March 5: 1:30pm–3:30pm.

T-Shirt Competition Winners

The T-Shirt Competition winners will be announced on Monday, March 5 at 3:30pm, and ribbons will be available at the NIRSA Foundation Table on Tuesday, March 6, beginning at 9:00am.

T-Shirt & Apparel Sale

Submitted T-shirts and other donated items will be available for purchase at the NIRSA Foundation Table near registration during the following times:

Sunday, March 4: 8:00am – 6:30pm
Monday, March 5: 8:00am – 3:30pm
Tuesday, March 6: 8:00am – 4:45pm
Wednesday, March 7: 8:00am – 12:00pm

The sale will continue as long as supplies last on Wednesday, March 7 at the NIRSA Foundation Table.

Donated items will go on sale as soon as they are available March 4. All items will be on sale while supplies last.

T-Shirt Silent Auction

The auction for this year’s one-of-a-kind quilt will be announced at the Closing General Session on Wednesday, March 7. Bids for the quilt can be placed on the 32Auctions website (coming soon!) starting on Rec Day, Thursday, February 22, until 2:00 pm, Wednesday, March 7. The quilt, designed and quilted by Mama Lee Wasson and Maxine Moore, is a display of the winning T-shirts from the 2017 T-shirt Competition, and can be viewed at the NIRSA Foundation table.
