The goal of this full-day workshop is to inspire NIRSA student members to continue learning about NIRSA and the collegiate recreation profession, as well as to enhance their self-awareness through motivational interactions with their peers and professionals.

This half-day workshop will explore leadership traits that women leaders naturally possess and give women the opportunity to connect with other leading women in NIRSA to learn strategies for survival, self-renewal, and reinvention. Attendees will explore their personal and professional priorities through storytelling, reflection, and developing intentional personal leadership plans.

This full-day workshop features a well-respected expert in university sustainability—Dave Newport, Director of the Environmental Center at the University of Colorado Boulder. The workshop will focus on how sustainability is key to using resources wisely, creating a welcoming environment for the university community, and fostering happy and productive work environments. Attendees will gain practical strategies for incorporating sustainable practices—environmental, social, and economic—into their work with facilities, services, staff, and participants.

In this full-day workshop, participants will learn about the complexities surrounding the terms and realities of different cultures as well as the impact those complexities have on everyday interactions, programs, and services. Attendees will participate in a self-assessment to learn about their own cultural nuances, and will create a personal cultural agility plan to improve their leadership competencies.

WEST: USF/Tampa Tour

Attendees will visit the Campus Recreation Center at the University of South Florida and McNiff Fitness Center at the University of Tampa.

EAST – UCF/Stetson Tour

Attendees will visit the Recreation and Wellness Center and the RWC Park at the University of Central Florida and the Hollis Center at Stetson University.

Florida Outdoor Adventure Trip

Get a taste of the Florida outdoors by enjoying a day of hiking, surfing, and stand up paddle boarding at Canaveral National Seashore. Transportation, equipment, instruction, and lunch in included in the cost.

NIRSA Community Service Project

Serve the central Florida community by partnering with the Community Food & Outreach Center, a nonprofit agency that helps those in need transform their lives by providing food, crisis care, opportunities for education and employment, and a hand to families, individuals, and children who are fighting to break the cycle of poverty. This is an opportunity to engage in meaningful service and team building with student and professional colleagues.

Volunteers at the Community Food & Outreach Center will work in two primary locations: the Reduced Cost Grocery Program and the Thrift Store. Both projects reach the clients of the Community Food & Outreach Center who are living at 200% of the federal poverty line. Volunteers help create a positive shopping experience by cleaning, organizing, and stocking shelves and racks in the 50,000+ square foot facility while interacting with shoppers. Read More »

2016 NIRSA Community Service Project

Preconference Facility Tours & Trip

Dallas Area Tour, 8:30am–4:00pm

Attendees will visit the Pohl Recreation Center at the University of North Texas, the Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports at Southern Methodist University, then end the day with a tour of AT&T Stadium.

Fort Worth Tour, 8:30am–4:00pm

Attendees will first visit the Campus Recreation Center at Texas Christian University, then the Maverick Activity Center and College Park Center at the University of Texas at Arlington, before ending with a tour of AT&T Stadium.
