Hockey without the ice. Two teams battle on a court surface, typically the size of a basketball court. Aggressive, physical play is limited to promote the more recreational aspects of the sport.

Traditional Formats

Floor hockey is traditionally played with two teams of six players. Open league (mixed) and co-rec league formats are common.

Staffing

Floor hockey is traditionally played with three officials, two of which are referees, each having the same responsibilities, and a scorekeeper/timer. Two officials can be used.

Rules

The second edition of the NIRSA Floor Hockey Rules & Officials Manual was published in 2004 along with an officials’ clinician kit.
