Traditional Formats

Floor hockey is traditionally played with two teams of six players. Open league (mixed) and co-rec league formats are common.

Floor hockey is traditionally played with three officials, two of which are referees, each having the same responsibilities, and a scorekeeper/timer. Two officials can be used.

The second edition of the NIRSA Floor Hockey Rules & Officials Manual was published in 2004 along with an officials’ clinician kit.
