This institute is tailored for women working in a diverse range of higher education positions who aspire to be senior leaders in higher education to learn together and their passion for their fields.

Learning Outcomes

The Women’s Leadership Institute is an experience which provides professional development training on issues that impact women working and serving in the higher education community. Attendees share a passion for higher education and aspire to be senior leaders across the many functional areas on campus.

Leadership development and career positioning continue to be general concerns for women the Women’s Leadership Institute is committed to supporting the development of the next generation of leaders in higher education. Research shows that while the gaps may be narrowing, pay and promotion disparity continue to be problems for women working on campus.

The mission of the Women’s Leadership Institute is to bring women together who represent the diverse communities across institutions of higher education. It provides a special opportunity to learn, not just about leadership skills, but about how other parts of campuses function, what the priorities and challenges facing other schools are, and how to bridge communication gaps that may exist when women in senior leadership positions try to work across campus cultures.

Rates & Reservations

Lodging is provided by the beautiful Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island. The sponsoring associations have negotiated a deeply discounted rate of $175/night + tax for this conference for either single or double occupancy.

The resort offers many amenities including spa and golf. The beach is easily accessible, and the resort offers complimentary coffee and water for morning beach walkers. There is a fitness center available for no charge, but the spa also offers a day pass for $25, which includes use of the newly remodeled spa pool, sauna, hot tub, relaxation room, and locker room.

For your hotel reservation, please call the reservations department at 800.241.3333. Rates are available until capacity is reached using group name “Women’s Leadership Institute 2015.”

The group rate is available for the nights of December 6-8, with scheduled check-out on December. Additional nights, if available, may or may not be awarded at the group rate of $175/night + tax. To ensure you receive the group rate, be sure make reservations before November 4.

Transportation

The most used airport in the area is the Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), located about 30 minutes from resort. For smaller aircraft, Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport is designed to accommodate Gulfstream V aircraft or smaller. It has six runways and serves aircraft other than major airlines.

Rental cars are available at the airport, but please note there is a valet fee of $15/day if you have a car at the resort (this is a discounted rate and you must mention that you should receive the ACUI-discounted rate to the valet). There is no option to self-park at the resort.

Celebrating its 10th year, the 2015 Women’s Leadership Institute returns to the east coast and Amelia Island, Florida, December 6–9, 2015.

This event continues to provide an experience that addresses current needs specific to women working within the sphere of higher education.

This unique Institute invites women working in a diverse range of higher education positions—from facilities and operations, and administration to auxiliary services, student affairs, recreation, and libraries—who aspire to be senior leaders in higher education to learn together and their passion for their fields.

The program features a curriculum with an overall focus on building the next generation of leaders in higher education administration and student affairs. The Women’s Leadership Institute offers a wonderful program for women of all ages to come together to learn and network with one another, forming bonds that last a lifetime.
