NIRSA Fitness & Wellness Institute: “Move More, Live Well”

About

Fitness and wellness professionals are dedicated to providing the space, equipment, and training needed for members and students to build healthy lifestyles. With inspiration from NIRSA’s Fitness & Wellness Institute, fitness and wellness professionals can bring a spark back to their programs and keep their participants returning for more.

The NIRSA Fitness & Wellness Institute is a multi-day educational and networking opportunity for fitness and wellness professionals. Class sessions and roundtable discussions, facilitated by leaders in the field, deliver fresh ideas and new insight into the development and implementation of fitness and wellness programming that is effective, fun, and safe.

Institute Topics

For 2015, the Fitness & Wellness Institute will encompass three areas of fitness: the training and development of fitness professionals, creative and innovative programs and services, and the overall objective of wellness. “Move More, Live Well” supports the idea that it’s important to get people moving in a way that works for them, and advocates for fitness trainers who are educated in self-efficacy and behavior theories. The Fitness & Wellness Institute Committee has aligned the institute topic areas with the NIRSA Core Competencies.

  • Philosophy and Theory (e.g. topics in equity, diversity, and inclusion or student development)
  • Human Resources Management (e.g. leadership, staff training, career development, continuing education, organizational structure, or labor law, including FSLA implantation)
  • Facility Management, Planning, and Design (e.g. trends in equipment or event management, repurposing existing or multipurpose spaces)
  • Legal Liability and Risk Management (e.g. campus rec policies about minors, or addressing issues of over-exercising)
  • Programming (e.g. group fitness, personal training, nutrition and wellness, new and current trends, virtual training or instruction, or youth/adult/community programming
  • Business Management (e.g. marketing, sustainability, collaboration, or trends)
  • Research and Evaluation (e.g. assessment and evaluation or research)
  • Personal and Professional Qualities (e.g. mentoring, collaboration, leadership, or certifications)

The NIRSA Triventure was my first NIRSA experience as an undergrad student at the University of Colorado- Boulder. It is truly inspirational that we have a community of fitness professionals who are dedicating in serving the campus communities. Being at the NIRSA Triventure has assured me that I am on the right path for my future and I cannot wait to experience the NIRSA Annual Conference.
