The NIRSA Championship Series is going to have one busy weekend in April as three championship tournaments come to a head. National basketball, national tennis, and our second 7v7 spring soccer tournament are all taking place across the country from April 11–14. This is an exciting time of the year for all NIRSA Championship Series teams as we have multiple sports and tournaments all occurring during the same season.

Basketball

Our regional tournaments have come to an end to crown eleven winners who will all advance to the National Basketball Championships, which will take place in Wichita, Kansas for the very first time. Included in that advancement are four of our club basketball teams who have won the leagues and will have a fighting chance at nationals.

“We’re excited to bringing the Championship Series National Basketball Tournament to a different region and time zone. The new location will remove travel barriers for participants in this region who could not travel to previous locations. It’s great when the Championship Series has new locations to make their events accessible to different regions,” says Austin Sanderson, Competitive Sports Coordinator from Wichita State University.

Wichita Hoops will host the tournament while Wichita State University is the leading school coordinating the championship this year. We’re excited to see who will win the title “National Champion!” For teams who are interested in participating at nationals, registration hasn’t close so sign up today!

Tennis

The 20th annual USTA Tennis on Campus National Championship will take place from April 11–13 in Surprise, Arizona. Once again, we will have 64 teams compete for the title of champion. As always, we look forward to the tournaments we’re hosting and the partnerships we have with the United State Tennis Association (USTA) and with World Team Tennis (WTT).

Soccer

The University of Illinois is hosting our second annual Region III 7v7 spring soccer tournament. Last year’s tournament was successful in bringing teams, staff, and student officials all together for a great event. Laura Thomas, Assistant Director of Competitive Sports at the University of Alabama and Chair of the Soccer Work Team, explains that we look forward to this tournament because it gives us an “exciting opportunity to extend to NIRSA members who are passionate about officiating soccer.” Teams that might be interested, registration is still open!

The NIRSA Championship Series is looking forward to these tournaments and excited for all the action about to take place! Follow all the action on Twitter, Instagram, and on the NIRSA Play Blog.
