The NIRSA Research & Assessment Committee is currently accepting applications for the NIRSA Research Grant Program. Two grants—one for $10,000 and one for $2,000—will be awarded for research in the field of collegiate recreation. Awards are intended to support NIRSA’s research agenda, which entails the development of original scholarly research conducted at a NIRSA member institution. Applicants do not have to be NIRSA members but their respective institutions must hold a NIRSA institutional membership.

The 2017 grant awardees were Yvette Kell, Director of Campus Recreation at CENTERS, LLC at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, for her project titled “An Exploration of Emotionally Intelligent Leadership in Collegiate Recreation Student Employees and Their Own Perceptions of Their Emotional Intelligence and Emotionally Intelligent Leadership”; and Dr. Deborah Shapiro, Associate Professor of Kinesiology and Health at Georgia State University, for her project titled “A Multi‐Institutional Comparison of Barriers and Facilitators of Campus Adapted and Inclusive Intramural Sports Programming for College Students with and without Disabilities.” These recipients are expected to present their results at the 2019 NIRSA Annual Conference & Campus Recreation and Wellness Exposition in Boston, MA.

The application period for the NIRSA Research Grant Program closes June 30 and selected grantees will be notified by August 31. Additional information about eligibility, application procedures, and selection criteria is available on the NIRSA website.
