The Annual Conference Program Committee is now accepting Research Hour presentation proposals for consideration as part of the 2018 NIRSA Annual Conference & Campus Rec and Wellness Expo taking place in Denver, Colorado from March 4–7. The Research Hour was a new feature at NIRSA 2017. It intends to help attendees further dive into the scholarly research work NIRSA members are conducting—be it as part of an academic program, a thesis project, or simply as an independent research project the presenter has chosen to pursue.

The 2018 Annual Conference will feature two Research Hours, both of which will showcase the findings of three separate research projects. Each presenter will have 15 minutes to present their findings, followed by five minutes for questions. The Research Hours will also have a moderator to keep each session on track and provide attendees with the opportunity to earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

Each Research Hour will have a common theme. Themes will be determined by the Program Committee based on the Research Hour submissions. Some suggested potential themes include: Student Development (Learning Outcomes, Student Learning), Participation Constraints and Motivations, Benefits of Participation, Diversity of Participation, and The Impact of Recreation Sports on Student Recruitment and Retention.

When creating a Research Hour presentation proposal, keep in mind that every poster presentation should align with the eight core competencies for collegiate recreation. A guide is available to help presenters build an effective proposal. To be considered as a Research Hour presenter, you must submit your poster presentation by Wednesday, October 18. To learn more about preparing a proposal, please visit NIRSA’s Presenter Resource page.

All presenters must have a current NIRSA membership when they submit their presentation proposal as well as during the 2018 Annual Conference. If you want to submit a poster presentation proposal and are not a member, sign up to become one today!

All confirmed lead presenters and co-presenters must register for NIRSA 2018. Co-authors may be recognized for their contributions to poster presentations, but only registered presenters will be allowed to attend the Annual Conference. Non-registered authors and contributors cannot present in any capacity.
