Do you know the best place to celebrate the rich history of NIRSA and socialize with the future leaders of the Association? It’s the People of Color Social of course!

This year’s social—taking place on Wednesday, February 22 at 7:15pm in the Cherry Blossom Ballroom of the Gaylord National—will coincide with the anniversary of the very first NIRSA Annual Conference.

The Lee Wasson People of Color Social is open to everyone. It provides networking and mentoring opportunities, fosters the involvement of people of color in the Association, and encourages active participation in leadership roles. Refreshments and light hors d’oeuvres will be served thanks to the generous sponsorship of PLAE.

Celebrate a distinguished leader

At this event, we will have the honor of awarding the Juliette Moore Distinguished Leadership Award to one deserving recipient. This award was established to honor those individuals who have helped further the goals of building a diverse and inclusive culture in our Association by fostering equality of opportunity, encouraging diverse perspectives, and creating a welcoming and supportive climate.

What’s with the bowties and scarves?

The social will also be a time to stage a photo wearing a scarf or a bowtie and capture memories of a lifetime!

Director at California Baptist University, and member of the People of Color Social Committee, Stefani Plummer explains, “We wear the bowties and scarves as a symbol of unity in the midst of our diversity.”

We hope to see you on Wednesday, February 22. Make sure to bring your dancing shoes!
