The deadline for the 2017 NIRSA Annual Service Award has been extended to September 28. Nominations take less than 30 minutes, so please take some time to nominate a deserving colleague today!

Service comes as second nature to collegiate recreation professionals who strive daily to serve their campus communities by providing and promoting opportunities for health and wellness.  And NIRSA thrives because of the vital contributions of its members.

The NIRSA Annual Service Award recognizes members who were outstanding volunteer leaders during the previous academic year (this year’s nomination’s should highlight service from the 2015-2016 academic year). Past award recipients have been recognized for regional leadership, their work on the Member Network, outstanding work as the chair of a committee or task force, dedication to the NIRSA Championship Series, and their work as a faculty member in the NIRSA School of Collegiate Recreation—just to name a few service roles. If you’ve witnessed outstanding service to the Association—large or small—we hope you will consider elevating it for Association-wide recognition and celebration.

“Our Association continues to be a game changer in higher education, and what our amazing NIRSA volunteers continue to accomplish is inspiring and should be recognized.”

Stephanie McAlpine, Assistant Director or Campus Recreation at the University of Texas at Arlington, reflects on her experience being recognized as a 2016 NIRSA Annual Service Award winner: “I was truly honored to be acknowledged by my colleagues with the NIRSA Service Award.  The accomplishments of the Championship Series have been phenomenal in recent years, and I was flattered to receive an award as part of such a tremendous team effort. Our Association continues to be a game changer in higher education, and what our amazing NIRSA volunteers continue to accomplish is inspiring and should continue to be recognized.” View the full list of recipients, along with their contributions on the at the NIRSA Annual Service Award page.

Don’t delay! Think back to last year and the volunteer efforts of your fellow NIRSA members. Did a fellow committee member really go above and beyond? Was there a member who created something new or greatly advanced a NIRSA project or program?

Take a few minutes today to help us identify the NIRSA shining stars! We know they’re out there and would love to have the opportunity to recognize their contributions! Submit your nomination by September 28.
