Collegiate recreation professionals won’t want to miss the opportunity to gather, grow, and encourage each other at the 2016 Women’s Leadership Institute! This fantastic professional development opportunity will take place from December 6–9 in Dana Point, California, and registration is now open! The deadline for early bird pricing is October 9.

As collaborative leaders on campuses, recreation professionals will have the opportunity to connect and learn with higher education professionals who work in other functional areas. The institute’s session topics and networking opportunities will strive to give women in higher education support towards their pursuit of executive leadership positions on campuses. The institute will also expand the knowledge base of all partner organizations regarding topics related to being a woman working on a college campus.

Becky Dahl, Associate Director for Programs at the University of Arkansas, says, “I learned a great deal about myself and my approach to my job and coworkers” at the 2015 institute. “The content and recommendations drew me to learn how I can improve my contributions and serve my university from a more well-rounded point of view.” Alexia Cervantes, Director of FitLife at UC San Diego, also learned quite a bit from her time at the 2015 institute. When asked what her most significant takeaway from the event was, she says, “That in order to advance your career you need to be strategic and that you must learn to navigate politics whether you like to or not.”

Registration for the 2016 event is available through NIRSA’s associate partner, the Association of College Unions International (ACUI). Details for the 2016 program are still in progress, but you can check out the 2015 program information on the ACUI website.
