The party’s not over yet! Interactive Fitness’ Spring Breakaway Regionals just ended and fifteen colleges emerged to move forward into the championship round taking place from April 25–29:
Albright College
Carnegie Mellon University
Georgia Gwinnett College
Green River Community College
Houghton College
Lock Haven University
Marshall University
Missouri University of Science and Technology
Portland State University
Saint Mary’s College of California
State University of New York at Oswego
University of Iowa
University of North Dakota
University of Rochester
Vanderbilt University
We now have one round to go in this college recreation tournament, which takes place entirely on virtual reality Expresso Bikes. Prizes will be awarded to the top 25 riders who cover the most miles, and the coveted Jaws trophy will go to the champion college.
Riders steer and shift to get to the finish line on any of the 43 courses available on these interactive bikes. The bike gives the rider the experience of pedaling through realistic parks and forests and even fantasy worlds with dinosaurs!
Last year, from the 139 colleges that competed, Houghton College brought home the Jaws trophy after riding 380 more miles than Carnegie Mellon University. The two teams set the tone for the championship this year by riding the most miles in their region.
Regional Champions
Central Region: University of Iowa with 462 miles
Mid-Eastern Region: Carnegie Mellon University with 1,210 miles
North Eastern Region: Houghton College with 821 miles
Pacific Region: Saint Mary’s College of California with 446 miles
South Eastern Region: Georgia Gwinnett College with 414 miles
Official rules and participation guidelines are available online. In last week’s regionals, 833 riders from 156 colleges rode a combined 9,938 miles and burned 389,814 calories on their Expresso Bikes. Next week is sure to be even bigger!
