The long-standing tradition of independent socials is an important part of the NIRSA Annual Conference experience. Independent socials provide attendees with a unique opportunity to network and socialize in smaller, more personalized groups as they connect over common backgrounds and interests. NIRSA’s dynamic, member-driven culture makes these events a popular part of every conference; at past conferences, NIRSA regions, states, vendors, and individual institutions have all hosted exciting independent socials.

Tuesday, April 5, 2016 as the ideal time to host or attend an independent social at the 2016 NIRSA Annual Conference & Recreational Sports Expo taking place in Kissimmee, FL from April 3–6. That evening will not conflict with other NIRSA 2016 events.

And make sure to let us help you spread word about your independent social. If you’re planning a social and would like the details included in the NIRSA 2016 conference program, please submit the following information to NIRSA Professional Development Coordinator John Raskauskas by January 11, 2016:

  • Your contact information
  • The social’s host, location, and time
  • Whether it’s a private or open event

We hope to see you in Florida at the Gaylord Palms this April! And don’t forget to keep an eye on the NIRSA News and on the #NIRSA2016 hashtag on Twitter and Instagram for the latest information about the 2016 NIRSA Annual Conference & Recreational Sports Expo.
