The 2015 NIRSA Triventure—a co-location of NIRSA’s Aquatic Institute, Fitness & Wellness Institute, and Recreation Facilities Institute presented by Mondo—will take place in Indianapolis from October 14–16. Don’t miss your chance to get involved in one of the Association’s largest professional development events—present at the 2015 NIRSA Triventure and be a part of “Creating Communities of Wellbeing”!

Student and professional lead presenters will receive a $100 voucher good towards registration fees at this event or for a future NIRSA institute or Annual Conference taking place within one year. All presenters also qualify for Professional Involvement Credits (PICs), which can be applied toward renewal in NIRSA’s Registry of Collegiate Recreational Sport Professionals. The deadline to submit a presentation proposal is June 10.

In addition to the 2015 NIRSA Triventure’s theme “Creating Communities of Wellbeing,” each individual institute also has a theme to go along with their unique lists of topic areas and hot topics. Members are encouraged to submit proposals about great program successes as well as proposals focused on lessons learned and creative ways to combat challenges.

NIRSA Aquatic Institute: “Striving to make 71% of the earth a healthier place”

This institute will focus on the hot topic of the new Model Aquatic Health Code (MAHC) guidelines published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Other topic areas include:

  • Training & Development
  • Risk Management
  • Scheduling & Technology
  • Assessment: Goals, Objectives, & Outcomes
  • Marketing: Programs & Careers
  • Other Aquatic Related Topics

NIRSA Fitness & Wellness Institute: “Move More, Live Well:

This institute will encompass three areas of fitness: the training and development of fitness professionals, creative and innovative programs and services, and the overall objective of wellness. “Move More, Live Well” supports the idea that it’s important to get people moving in a way that works for them, and advocates for fitness trainers who are educated in self-efficacy and behavior theories. The Fitness & Wellness Institute Committee has aligned the institute topic areas with the NIRSA Core Competencies:

  • Philosophy and Theory (e.g. topics in equity, diversity, and inclusion or student development)
  • Human Resources Management (e.g. leadership, staff training, career development, continuing education, organizational structure, or labor law, including FSLA implantation)
  • Facility Management, Planning, and Design (e.g. trends in equipment or event management, repurposing existing or multipurpose spaces)
  • Legal Liability and Risk Management (e.g. campus rec policies about minors, or addressing issues of over-exercising)
  • Programming (e.g. group fitness, personal training, nutrition and wellness, new and current trends, virtual training or instruction, or youth/adult/community programming)
  • Business Management (e.g. marketing, sustainability, collaboration, or trends)
  • Research and Evaluation (e.g. assessment and evaluation or research)
  • Personal and Professional Qualities (e.g. mentoring, collaboration, leadership, or certifications)

NIRSA Recreation Facilities Institute: “Built Communities”

The 2015 Institute will continue the conversation started at the 2014 Institute on Built Communities—the concept of finding new and different ways of building, programming, and operating to create an inclusive environment.  Other topic areas include:

  • Facility Construction & Design (e.g. topics should include information pertaining to facility construction/design that could encompass project overview, planning, collaboration, problems/solutions, financial supports, etc.)
  • Facility Management & Operations (e.g. topics should include information pertaining to facility management and operations that could encompass weekly maintenance schedule, annual maintenance, technologies utilized such as iPads/tablets, business software systems, department collaboration/outreach, student staff development/scheduling, etc.)
  • Facility Programming (e.g. topics should include information pertaining to facility programming that could encompass new informal activities/sports offered, effective use of facility spaces for activities, special event/activities, collaborating with other areas in your department/university etc)
