A free, joint sustainability webinar in the Civil Discourse and Civic Engagement Series is being presented October 16 at 3:00pm EST by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE).
The webinar is sponsored by the Higher Education Associations Sustainability Consortium (HEASC).
A follow-up to last spring’s “Student Affairs Stories of Sustainability: Resources to Engage Students and Remove Silos,” the webinar “Civil Discourse and Civic Engagement in Student and Academic Affairs with Planet Education” will invite participants to learn more about integrating sustainability education and action—specifically within the sphere of collegiate recreation.

Attendees will share ideas and activities for how to act together for a better world. Speakers will describe national initiatives to engage their respective students and communities in clean energy options, climate destabilization solutions, and making connections across the political spectrum.
Implications for CAS standards on student learning and development will be discussed for those who need support doing this important work on their campuses. Additionally, outcomes, standards, and guidelines within organizations like ACPA, ACUHO-I, NIRSA, and NASPA will be highlighted.
NIRSA member Megan Krone, a doctoral student at the University of San Diego, will serve as a discussion co-leader during the webinar.
Prospective participants should register soon since the 2014 spring webinar did reach capacity.
About HEASC
HEASC is a network of higher education associations with a commitment to advancing sustainability within their constituencies and within the entire system of higher education. NIRSA has been a proud member of HEASC since 2006 and the consortium has been a great support in helping NIRSA organize its early sustainability efforts. HEASC continues to support regular networking amongst higher education associations’ sustainability leaders, learning from each association’s efforts and leading collaborations.
