The 2014 International Experiential Learning Institute, held May 21-23 in Newfoundland, Canada, promises a unique experience for NIRSA professionals to expand their global viewpoint while training in experiential leadership and techniques with other globally focused professionals.
This international opportunity will expand global perspectives and strengthen leadership skills while also allowing attendees to experience the unique and rich culture of North America’s oldest city, St. John’s, Newfoundland. The 2014 Institute will emphasize experiential education and how experiential learning relates to campus engagement. Prospective topics for sessions include: developing learning outcomes, experiential leadership training, effective reflection techniques, and assessment practices.

Participants will engage in hands-on experiential learning activities with the culture of Newfoundland. By attending the 2014 International Experiential Learning Institute, attendees can expect to:
- Meet professionals from other institutions that are engaging students internationally with experiential learning
- Learn how student engagement can be supported thorough experiential learning
- Gain skills to develop effective experiential learning practices on their campuses
Scholar in Residence and keynote speaker Susan R Komives, who, among her many tributes, co-authored Leadership for a Better World: Understanding the Social Change Model of Leadership Development, is a unique highlight for 2014. The 2013 International Experiential Learning Institute incorporated the work of Komives in the mandatory reading and philosophy of the event.
Don’t miss out on early bird registration, which offers pricing at $495 per person until May 1. After May 1, registration will be $565 per person.
There are two housing options–one on campus and one at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland. The on-campus housing offers a new twist on traditional dormitory living. The rooms in the New Dormitory Experience offer more privacy and space to guests. These private rooms offer easy access to on-site cafes and laundry, free wireless service, a shared foyer for every two bedrooms, ensuite bathroom, private keyed entrance to each single bedroom, and complementary local phone. Registration will include breakfast for those staying in campus housing while lunch, light refreshments, and dinner is included for all International Experiential Learning Institute attendees.
Registration for this event will be limited to 80 participants (with a balanced blend of attendees from Canada and attendees from the United States). Mark your calendars, and, if you live in the United States, prepare your passport to join NIRSA at this international event!
