This popular fundraiser is a highlight of the NIRSA Annual Conference & Campus Rec and Wellness Expo!

Join the fun and promote your institution’s recreation department and programs by entering items that showcase your graphic design and event promotion savvy. Entries will be judged on originality, content, graphic design, and overall visual appeal.

The design contest is a philanthropic endeavor that provides friendly competition between NIRSA institutions and serves as an exchange of creative promotion ideas. Ribbons are awarded for first, second, and third places in each category. All entries are displayed and sold at the NIRSA Foundation Table near Conference registration.


Donations to the Apparel Sale are greatly appreciated! Bring your T-shirts and other popular items such as jackets, sweatshirts, cups, hats, etc. These items will be available for sale immediately. Don’t wait until the last minute to check out the sale—at NIRSA 2018 in Denver, we completely sold out!

Donated items will go on sale as soon as they are available, and the sale will continue as long as supplies last on Tuesday, February 19 at the NIRSA Foundation Table.

T-Shirt Competition Winners

The T-Shirt Competition winners will be announced on Sunday, February 17, at 3:30pm. Prize ribbons will be available at the NIRSA Foundation Table beginning at 9:00am on Monday, February 18.

T-Shirt & Apparel Sale

Submitted T-shirts and other items will be available for purchase at the NIRSA Foundation Table near Conference registration during the following times:

  • Friday, February 15

    • 5:00pm-8:00pm
  • Saturday, February 16

    • 7:00am-3:00pm
    • 5:00pm-8:30pm
  • Sunday, February 17

    • 7:30am-5:00pm
    • Check-in for the Mark Fletcher Urban Circuit is at 6:45am in the Expo Hall!
  • Monday, February 18

    • 8:00am-3:45pm
  • Tuesday, February 19

    • 8:00am-12:00pm

Entry Process

Bring your completed entry forms (available online soon!) with you for a quick check-in. Entries will be accepted at the NIRSA Foundation Table located near the Conference registration area during these times:

All proceeds will be used to further the mission of the NIRSA Foundation.

Contest Categories

T-shirts will be judged in each of the following categories:

  • Fitness & Wellbeing
  • Humorous
  • Intramurals
  • One-Color Screen (includes all categories)
  • Outdoor
  • Special Events
  • Sport Clubs
  • Staff (lifeguard, officials, etc.)

Best of Show will be awarded among the first-place winners from each of the T-shirt categories.


  • Two T-shirts must be submitted for each entry. One will be for the T-shirt Competition, and the second will immediately go on sale in the Apparel Sale.
  • Entries must be submitted at the NIRSA Foundation Table by noon on Sunday, February 17.
  • T-shirts and other items must represent events that occurred between March 2018 and February 2019.
  • T-shirts may be either short or long sleeved. Tank tops and sleeveless shirts are considered short sleeved.
  • Designs may be one or more colors.
  • The number of entries is unlimited.
  • If you wish for an item to be considered for more than one category, you must enter each category separately and provide the correct number of shirts. Two shirts must be submitted for each entry.
  • Non-T-shirt entries will be considered as Apparel Sale donations and will not be judged in the contest.
