Education Sessions

Educational sessions are the backbone of the NIRSA Annual Conference.

They are intended to impart knowledge to the attendees on trends, research, and best practices in the profession and higher education. Educational sessions are a “lecture” or “workshop” form of presentation from a lead presenter and sometimes co-presenters.

Educational Sessions need to meet the qualifications for NIRSA CEUs which include the following parameters:

  • Minimum of 60 minutes in length
  • Identify two or three learning outcomes that participants will be able to demonstrate as a result of attending the session
  • Ensure your session aligns with and identifies one or more of the eight NIRSA core competencies
  • Instruction is provided by a qualified individual/s based on their education, experience and expertise as related to the instructional topic.

I’ve submitted a proposal…what’s next?

  1. At the close of the proposal period, all submitted proposals will be reviewed by NIRSA members who have volunteered to serve as proposal reviewers.
  2. Proposal reviewers will provide feedback to members of the Annual Conference Program Committee, who will then use that information to determine proposals to be accepted and included into the 2017 Annual Conference education program.
  3. The review and selection process typically takes approximately 2 months. Presenters can expect to be notified if their proposal was accepted/declined in late summer.

Roundtables

Roundtables are intended to be a structured/moderated opportunity for attendees to discuss specific areas of interest.

Presenters should guide the discussion topics with an end goal of identifying and sharing best practices.

Roundtables do not qualify for CEUs so no learning objectives need to be provided.

Fitness Forum

Fitness Forum classes are a great way to introduce new and upcoming fitness trends to the NIRSA membership.

These high-intensity classes provide an opportunity for attendees to get some exercise while observing the instructor for teaching techniques.

Fitness Forum classes are generally 40-45 minutes in length and occur in a designated space within the Expo Hall.

Member of the Registry?

If you are a member of the Professional Registry of Collegiate Recreational Sports Professionals, your CEU presentation will award you 0.4 Professional Involvement Credits (PICs). This credit can be applied to your registry membership renewal.
