022 Best Practices: Sustainability in Campus Recreation

This session will report the findings from an original research project studying best practices of social, economic, and environmental sustainability specific to campus recreation programs, facilities, and staffing. It will educate attendees on what NIRSA Sustainability Ambassadors think are best practices and provide specific examples of sustainability practices for attendees to implement at their universities. The session will report on the first multi-institutional research project on sustainability in campus recreation, and serve as a roadmap for our sustainable future.

In this session you will learn more about the Ambassador program and NIRSA’s work in sustainability, and you will have the opportunity to join the Ambassador team. It is a great volunteer opportunity. While the time commitment is minimal, the impact can be significant.

160 Pounds vs. People: Two Different Programs’ Approaches to Climate Neutrality

As universities approach their climate neutrality goal target dates, it’s time to consider emissions associated with athletics-related travel. Two universities will share their different approaches to climate neutrality and club sports travel. This case study will present their differing methodologies for measurement, campus engagement, and offsets.
