NIRSA is excited to announce a late addition to the NIRSA 2017 Annual Conference program! Attendees will now have an opportunity to participate in a roundtable discussion about concussions.

As mentioned in a recent article with links to great concussion resources for campus recreation professionals, a large, global insurance company has recently announced its intentions to exclude concussions and other neurodegenerative injuries from their commercial general liability coverage for colleges and universities.

For those attending NIRSA 2017, we invite you to learn more about this disturbing development and what it may mean for campus recreation. Lend your voice to the discussion about how NIRSA professionals can collaborate in developing strategies to address this continually evolving topic. Risk management expert Ian McGregor—President of SportRisk— and I will facilitate the conversation.

This topic is especially timely and we are happy to provide this forum to continue the conversation. “The insurance industry’s latest move to exclude liability coverage for concussions represents a significant threat to campus recreation programs across North America, with a worst-case-scenario seeing program cancellations for high-risk contact activities,” explains Ian.

Join us from 10:30am-11:30am in the Cherry Blossom Ballroom of the Gaylord National on Wednesday, February 22 as we seek to advance the best practices in the field. Feedback from members will help guide our next steps in organizing advocacy and awareness strategies.
