Have you ever considered joining a global movement? The NIRSA Foundation invites you to participate in Giving Tuesday, a global campaign to harness the unifying power of giving.

Occurring this year on December 1, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after the United States’ Thanksgiving and the widely-recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It’s meant to kick off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their communities and to give back in meaningful ways to the charities and causes they support.

The #GivingTuesday movement is going strong—it grows larger and larger every year—and the NIRSA Foundation is proud to be a part of it. Join the campaign with the NIRSA Foundation on December 1 and take part in something big!

The NIRSA Foundation joined #GivingTuesday last year in an effort to support NIRSA members since the Association is the catalyst for developing leaders in the collegiate recreation field. “Scholarships and research are an investment in the future,” says Deb Johnson—Senior Associate Director at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln—and the NIRSA Foundation is committed to funding both. Even beyond that, as Earl Cabellon—Assistant Director of Student Personnel at the University of Maryland-College Park—points out, campus recreation enriches “the student experience and inspires our communities to live healthy and well.”

NIRSA Foundation Board member Chris Muller, Associate Director at The University of Texas at Arlington, reminds us that NIRSA members “give selflessly every day. Participating in #GivingTuesday is just another way to ‘pay it forward.’” So take to Twitter and Instagram on December 1 to share your support for the NIRSA Foundation and your love for #campusrec! Get ready to express why #campusrec matters to you, and consider downloading the NIRSA Foundation #GivingTuesday template for an #unselfie! Donate to a worthy cause and tweet your completed variation on the following:

“I support #campusrec because

[…] @NIRSAFoundation #GivingTuesday.”

This year, let’s move away from spending and focus on the true holiday spirit—giving! Simply visit the NIRSA website on December 1 to make your contribution. Your participation in the NIRSA Foundation’s #GivingTuesday movement will make a real difference to the collegiate recreation field.
