Every summer, updated clinician kits, exams, and rulebooks become available for the fall intramural sports season. The Flag Football Clinician Kit was recently updated to coincide with the May release of the 17th edition of the NIRSA Flag & Touch Football Rules Book and Official’s Manual. Additionally, updates are currently being incorporated into the NIRSA Officiating Flag Football Online Course which should be available for purchase in August. All of these flag football officiating resources can be found at the NIRSA Education & Publication Center.

The NIRSA Flag & Touch Football Rules Book & Officials’ Manual has been in print since 1983. It has sold over 100,000 copies and is the official rules book for most college and university intramural programs as well as for the NIRSA Championship Series. The rules have also been adopted by numerous programs that offer high school girls flag football.

Since its inception, the NIRSA Flag Football Rules Book & Officials’ Manual has been edited by Dr. Bruce Maurer who is retired from The Ohio State University. However, for its next edition, an editorial board will be responsible for gathering input and updating the rules book and officials’ manual. The Flag Football Editorial Board Task Force is currently reviewing 47 applications for the nine open editorial board positions. The appointments to the NIRSA Flag Football Editorial Board will be announced in August.
